It introduced a questline that sent you to Dalaran and subsequently to the Eye of Azshara where you had to hunt down pirates who shoot down Dalaran's supply planes. As far as I know that's the most recent information on Dalaran's location. The real world reason for the name is because Silver y moon is the elf city in dnd land, and the old blizzard guys were just a buncha nerds. Silverymoon is a bit more akin to Dalaran than Silvermoon. It's a magocracy and has more humans in it than elves. I don't recall if the first High Mage was an elf, but there were some humans and half-elven ... Finally: do not take someones word for what is canon in the lore and what isn't. People are absolutely incompetent at providing sources or properly interpreting material.
