Jeep jl second battery location.
Tried jumping again and could not get the car started. Would not jump start. I guess the battery was really dead. I had it towed home. The next day I replaced only the main battery with a new fully charged battery. I also charged the smaller secondary battery. Have not replaced the second battery yet. The 2018 jeep JLU started normally.

Staged the ESS battery under the rear pass seat, fits great. Over the coming weeks I'll push it back behind the rear all together but wanted an easy way to monitor it. Terminals at ESS battery are rubber wrapped for now, will flux down and heat shrink on final stage. Ground to chassis, 1/0 SGT runs. Falcon 3.1 fits like a glove now, finally.

Well there's two belts, a wide one and a narrower one. And electric motor that runs with the big belt to add torque, power assist and reduces winding rpm up. Braking regenerates the 48v battery. Living in Texas its hot and heat is a battery killer. My JL is a 2018 also and I am replacing both very soon. Its true a bad battery draws down a good one, if you do any off road exploring the last thing you need is a vehicle that wont start. The down side to replacing batteries is the difficulty in getting to the second battery. Just my 2 cents.Leave the positive charger clamp on the main battery cable. Charge the aux battery. Of the two negative cables that goes to the negative of the main battery, one goes to the fender body/chassis ground, the other goes to the aux battery negative post. Within 5 miles it started up with Service Shifter again.. Took it back.. 2nd - Chrysler engineering then had them inspect and re-seat all harness connections. Road tested 6 times without issue. Kept it a second night to test drive again the next day. All looked good and no codes were set. Picked up tonight, within 15 miles same issue.
In my testing I temporarily disconnected the negative cable leading from the ESS battery to the main battery's negative post and left it dangling. I attempted to cold crank the 3.6L and on first attempt it failed. But on second attempt it succeeded, turning on the ESS off light in the EVIC.KISS is a good suit to follow. Didn't think of the bumper/frame as the second ground, so good call there it would ground itself out and fry the cable or battery first most likely.
