There are complaints about some places being overcrowded in July ( Dubrovnik, for instance, or Plitvice lakes), other complain because of long queues for the ferries to islands, crowds at the airports, hot weather, mosquitos - people complain for all possible reasons.

Your best bet may be large international chains (Hertz, Avis, Europcar etc) - check if they have offices now in Kosovo and Albania, then there is a good chance they would allow a car rented in Croatia to pass to those countries. Bosnia and North Macedonia should not be a problem with any.The architectural grandeur is on a different level, though I did enjoy Vis Town. I am an annual visitor to Hvar. Replete with charm. Take the walk up to the fortress. Lovely coastal walks in either direction of the town. Honestly, both options are well worthy of 2+ day. Whichever decision you make will be a good one. 6. Yes sorry miss spelling, The ferry website I have looked at - the one you say has all the information on does not have any sailing times for car ferries from May 30th onwards, which is why I initially raised the question. Hard to give specific recommendations based on liking history alone as there are lots of options, Split is probably the easiest base as it is the hub for the southern Islands.
