Press a GCD when it's about halfway through your GCD. It'll probably use that GCD once the cooldown ends. Also Macros have an inherent 0.5 second requirement before being able to be used after any action. So if you use a skill, you cannot use a macro until at least 0.5 seconds after the last button was pressed.
