I don't know the numbers but it is extremely difficult to get into the dphil there. 25 of us at our masters program (the 2nd ranked philo grad program in the UK) and only 2 got in for the dphil.

I've got my (expected) undergraduate education, all my research experience (I was in a lot of experimental fields before getting to philosophy, so no publications but plenty of research assistantship experience), teaching experience, languages, and... that's about it. I am interested in Kierkegaard. I am applying to both religious studies and philosophy programs in hopes of working with a Kierkegaard scholar. Aside from the above mentioned (which are great suggestions), there are some other notable Kierkegaard scholars in the U.S. in philosophy and religious studies/theology departments.

You should 100% apply to a mix of at least a few top 10 PhDs, a few top-20 PhDs, and several MA programs, including Brandeis, Tufts, GSU, and Milwaukee.Villanova doesn't have a terminal MA in Philosophy, so cancel that suggestion (they have a "Liberal Studies M.A., where one can take a few phil. classes, but it's not the same thing, and there is no guarantee that will get you into a PhD).
