If you're new or casual then EoD will make your learning experience much easier and less frustrating. I'd say there isn't really much of a difference besides a tiny bit more of space and 3 more squares in your pouch, which you can still get both by playing the game. Prepare for escape is honestly really good.

And assuming another version LIKE EOD comes out, I would assume it would work the same as it currently does how you can "upgrade". I personally started with the base version and after a year and realizing it was going to be something that consumed an unhealthy amount of my time, I upgraded my account from base to EOD.
