I have 30 hearts (max) and 3 stamina wheels (max). I maxed out on hearts before I had finished all the shrines. After that, I had to use new orbs for stamina containers until those maxed out too. When heart and stamina containers get maxed out, the goddess tells you you can't get any stronger or something like that. Do tell how you did that.

Stamina makes all movement and combat easier. Hearts are just health bar. If you're not a big gamer, get a couple hearts first, get a feel for things, and go from there. If you're comfortable with video games, just go for stamina. It's much easier to get extra hearts with BotW's version of potion making than it is to get stamina.
