On my WW2 97 trench gun (which is an early gun with WB marked stock and heat shield with 6 rows of cooling holes), the rear of the inlet is 3 3/8 inches from the end of the stock (not including the butt plate).I do have data on several GHD marked guns that have heat shields with 6 rows of cooling holes in the 935,000 to 939,999 serial number range.
