Yes, and I personally think that's okay. Thaumaturge, Investigator, Rogue, and (when built for it) Ranger all have similar abilities to identify enemy weaknesses. A potential Inquisitor would also have similar abilities. half elf human can easily get fighter or investigator archetype at level 9. very good for thaumaturge. Champion and Sentinel are almost always going to be the strongest combat-oriented archetypes for a Str Thaum. Imo, there are few archetypes worth taking 100% of, so I encourage you to not limit yourself in such a way with your FA slots.
There are 4 ways to build "Paladin" in PF2e, at least in my opinion: Classic, take Champion, pick Paladin cause. Party tank. Fake Champion. Fighter with Champion Dedication (Paladin cause) for getting only best stuff from Champion: Ranged Reprisal, Retributive Strike and maybe Lay on Hands. 2 handed reach weapon.

Just looking for some build advice, I'll be playing Pathfinder 2e for the first time soon, coming from DnD 5e. Still getting used to new rules! I really like the idea of Thaumaturge, and decided to try and build a character inspired by Harry Dresden. My initial plans were to go for a Dex-based Thaumaturge, with a weapon implement being a pistol. The main concern with such a build is survivability. You don't have heavy armor or enough initial dex to max out light armor. The only way to get a shield that doesn't hamper your damage output is a huge investment so you can archetype into magus and use Tome as a shield, but flanking is an easy way to gain flat-footed and if you go Weapon ...Free Archetype does open up the opportunities a bit. But by level 10 you have your normal reaction, a dedicated shield block reaction, and a dedicated AoO reaction. You have the powerful champion reaction.
