EA support are unable to remove a security key from an account. swtor support are a different support line and can only remove a key by phone call if you are unable to remove the key yourself in the web browser as seen below by leaving the key blank. ( note the password needs to be known)

You could try emailing them, but they apparently take quite a while to get back to you. Although I've not needed to call support myself, I have at least heard good things about it.With an exisiting Security Key, you'll see a prompt to enter your Security Key Code. The key can only be removed in a web browser on www.swtor.com not via the launcher just to be sure. See the image in this link it is still in the same location , if the link is not appearing then you will need to call CS during the detailed available hours below to get the key removed. It has a serial number printed on its back that you have to type in here at swtor.com to initialize the key. After typing in the device's serial number to swtor.com, the server asks for a key in order to adjust the time used for key validation to your device's internal clock. The app uses a generic algorithm to create a 6 digit key.

Heres the solution: go to the main login screen of SWTOR website and enter your username and password and leave the security key field blank. Then on the next screen, choose “Lost Security Key?”. This will send a one time password to your email to verify that you want to remove the security key, then you're basically set!
This may have been what was wrong. The customer support person took the security key off the account, then I placed it back on when able to log in again. I didn't see any way to resync the key without calling customer support. Is there a specific location outside of the swtor security key app to resync, in case this ever happens again?
