While at the range today I thought I had an FTF and went to eject the mag. I wasn’t able to eject the mag, which I thought was odd, but was able to clear the round and let it strip a new round.

It’s pretty obvious why the feed ramp needs to be a smooth, polished surface. The nose of the bullet must slide over and through this concave surface to enter the chamber.
