The 9,028 acre refuge is composed of wet bottomland hardwood laced with bayous and canals. The primary mission of the refuge is to preserve and manage habitat for the threatened Louisiana black bear. Visitors can enjoy boating on Cypress and Black Bayou in a counterclockwise direction, with extra caution advised on Black Bayou due to its narrower width. With an entry fee of $5.00 per person (children 5 and under are free), Cypress-Black Bayou provides a family-friendly environment.
