Seems to be a bug. he onlt attacks if you break your oath and he shows up in camp before you kill alfira, if you play it kinda straight until you kill alfira, that breaks any oath as far as i know, and the knight comes afterwards. so from what i can tell it's an order of operations error, but propably so niche that the devs will never fix it.

You don't need to side with the Goblins to free Sazza. You can just use her to infiltrate the Goblin Camp and then kill the 3 Leaders once within. That doesn't need to break your Oath either, assuming you use one of your Companions to talk to Sazza. I've heard if you let them kill her then open the cage, it will break your oath.
