Basically, you can set this drill up where the line to marks are right off a short guns back, under the arc, through a fall, etc. It teaches a dog to ignore other white coats that are out in the field and to just concentrate on the mark being thrown. It also helps on head swinging.

Maybe he can chase it a little and tease him with it. Get him excited about the bird. The drag it a few feet and let him find the trail and follow it with his nose. 4. Take a dead bird throw to with a starter's pistol shot and let the dog retrieve the bird. 5. Take a dead bird and have a friend shoot a low velocoty shotshell 80 or 90 yards away and then throw the dead bird. The dog will eventaully associate the shot with a dead bird. If he breaks put him back where he was and again make him wait to be sent. When the pup is sitting reliably to the shot and bumper try to find a field with some birds and make sure he sits to flush.
