IIRC, Ancient weapons are equivalent to tier III or IV repeatable tech weapons, so even with the buffs from the ascension perk they get overtaken by regular repeatable in the late-game. It's probably more useful now that tech rush has been nerfed, but I haven't played a game recently enough to opine on that.
