1897 trench gun heat shield.
The Model 1897 Trench gun was ideal and was an evolution of this idea. The 1897 was modified by adding a perforated steel heat shield over the barrel which protected the hand of the user from the barrel when if it became over-heated. An adapter with bayonet lug was added to allow a P14 bayonet to be fitted.

It is an original trench gun and is in really good condition with one caveat - the heat shield was ripped off. It still has the bayonet lug, but the original guy ripped the heat shield off. Hell, it still has 3 of the rivets!
